Reading Partners

The children have enjoyed working with their reading partners this week. They "turn and talk" with their reading partners during read alouds and have been practising taking picture walks together. Readers of all ages enjoy talking about books (think of how popular book clubs are!) and in K2, having a designated reading partner helps to facilitate this. When young readers discuss texts, they develop their oral language skills and practise taking turns to talk and listen.

This week we worked with wordless books as I wanted to reinforce the importance of making meaning from the illustrations in picture books. I noticed many partners slowing down to notice details in the pictures and making predictions and inferences ("I think that...") based on what they were seeing. Predicting and inferring are certainly important comprehension skills for readers of all ages.

Reminder:

This Friday, 30th October, is Spirit Day in the Primary School. It is on our calendar and the children are excited to come to school dressed up in a creative way. Students are invited to wear a costume they already have, a home made version or creative clothes of any kind.
