It all started with an Infant assembly at which Mr Deeth, who works in our Activities Office, talked about his passion for sports, running in particular. We all felt motivated to pursue our passions- even when we struggle- after hearing him. What perfect timing as we launch our passion projects in class.
Ms Marija came to our class and taught us how to make coil pots using real clay. It was a great follow up to her first session about making clay balls. The children had to roll out 'snakes' and check if they were long enough to go around the base. In the coming weeks the pots will be fired in the school's kiln- very exciting! For now, they are air drying on our window ledge. Please be sure to have a look if you are in class in the near future.
The children love writing on the white boards and we use them for a number of things, including practising high-frequency words. Filling in the missing words from the morning message is certainly getting easier!
The children played new games in math and are getting better at recording their thinking accurately on paper. They've discovered that there are many ways to make 10 and have been using double-sided counters and cuisenaire rods to find as many combinations as possible. The children are also getting practise articulating their problem solving strategies orally- what a great way to learn from each other!
The students always love the opportunity to get into the kitchen and even did some experimenting with floating and sinking this week. Thanks, Nadia!
So many more things happened this week...but I'll end with a short video of the children at the swimming pool. The children have been great self-managers getting themselves ready to swim. Ms Yani and I have been so impressed!
